Grants Support High School Music Program - February 2010
  • Digital Audio Workstation — Enabled purchase of a specialized computer workstation to allow students to learn about recording music.
  • Choral Master Works Concert —In collaboration with Friends of Music, funding will enable high school musicians to perform a challenging piece of music with a professional orchestra. The event will be held at Lyme-Old Lyme High School Auditorium, March 25 at 7:30 PM.The concert is free an dopen to the public. Thy will be performing selections form "Elijah" by Felix Mendelssohn.

These grants were awarded in 2009, in keeping with the LOL EF's goal of providing innovative and enriching educational experiences throughout our community - for learners of all ages:
  • LOLHS Student Response System (John Byrne):  System technology provides immediate feedback on individual student comprehension; initially intended for mathematics, science & world languages
  • LOLHS CNC Technology (Bill Derry, Jon Goss):  Computer Numeric Control technology provides state of the art design, engineering and manufacture to produce parts, materials, signs, etc., for teaching, robotics and school; and community service projects.
  • LOLMS Potter’s Wheel (Thelma Halloran):  Potter’s Wheel to be used for instructional purposes to teach pottery techniques, in art classes and for after-school enrichment and community service.
  • LOLMS Production Studio (Bill Eydman):  Production studio would be used primarily for the morning announcements, broadcast debates and other projects.
  • LOLHS Humanities Enrichment (Charlie Wolfe, Jen Burke):  Support humanities program for one year to subsidize the expense of a diversity of culturally distinct performers, lecturers, artists and musicians to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the instruction of art, social studies, music, English, science, etc.
  • Mile Creek School Literacy Enrichment (Peggy Comstock): In conjunction with the Haskins Laboratory for Reading (Yale) this grant will expand the development of the oral and written literacy program in District 18.
  • LOLHS FIRST Team 236 Video Editing (Adam Gentry): The Robotics team will use this computer equipment to train students and create video presentations highlighting robotics at LOLHS.
  • LOLMS Digital Music Lab (Robin Aubin):  This is the second part of a two part grant request to expand composition and music theory.
  • LOLHS Adobe Director (Leslie Traver):  The purchase of Adobe Director software will be used to supplement the web design/HTML course for college credit.
  • Old Lyme Children’s Learning Center Edible Learning Courtyard (Alison Skonieczny):  Funds are supporting the creation of a vegetable garden, composting and rain collection basins to teach children about sustainability and conservation.
Grants Awarded to Community and Schools - December 2008
  • Lyme-Old Lyme High School Biology PCR Laboratory station — Enabled purchase of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Labstation equipment to provide valuable first hand laboratory experience for students and enhance the biotechnology component of the Advanced Placement Biology course, as well as allow for the development of curricular activities using this state of the art technology in the introductory biology courses and the forensics elective.
  • Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Science Olympiad — Supported preparation for and participation in the 2009 Connecticut Science Olympiad program (see www.ctscioly.org). Science Olympiad is a national program designed to encourage and support greater student interest in science and technology. The team placed third in the state of Connecticut.
  • Courageous Parenting — Allowed Community Action for Substance Free Youth (CASFY) in conjunction with the Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau, to provide the local community with a powerful and comprehensive substance abuse and prevention program. More than 3 dozen parents and community members participated in the workshops.
