Grant Cycle Extended
The Foundation has extended the deadline
for submitting applications for the spring grant cycle. Applications submitted by May 31st,
2009, will be considered in this cycle. Grant awards will be announced by June 30, 2009. The deadline for applications
to be considered in our fall grant cycle is November 1, 2009.

Grants Awarded to Community and Schools
The
Lyme/Old Lyme Educational Foundation, Inc. recently awarded grants to fund three innovative educational enrichment programs
in the Lyme and Old Lyme communities:
Lyme-Old Lyme High School Biology PCR Laboratory
station — Enabled purchase of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Labstation equipment to provide valuable first
hand laboratory experience for students and enhance the biotechnology component of the Advanced Placement Biology course,
as well as allow for the development of curricular activities using this state of the art technology in the introductory biology
courses and the forensics elective.
Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School Science Olympiad
— Supported preparation for and participation in the 2009 Connecticut Science Olympiad program (see www.ctscioly.org).
Science Olympiad is a national program designed to encourage and support greater student interest in science and technology.
The team placed third in the state of Connecticut!
Courageous Parenting — Allow Community Action for Substance Free Youth (CASFY) in conjunction with the
Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau, to provide the local community with a powerful and comprehensive substance abuse and prevention
program. More than 3 dozen parents and community members participated
in the workshops.

Broadening education beyond the schools has been a priority of the foundation
and to this end the foundation has invited grant applications from the community, school teachers, and students. Since our
inception, we have awarded grants to fund a number of innovative educational/community enrichment programs. The grants are
supporting these projects (Grant details are available in our annual newsletters which can be downloaded below):
- Eldridge Butterfly Garden (Mile Creek School)
- Language
Lab Technology (Language Arts and World Language Departments in the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School and High School)
- Lyme Summer Reading Program (Collaborative program of Lyme Consolidated School, in conjunction
with Lyme Public Library)
- LYSB Family Curriculum (Expand the curriculum
of the Lymes' Youth Service Bureau's Parent Resource Program)
- Digital
music laboratory (Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School)
- Expansion of and enhancements
to Humanities Course (Lyme-Old Lyme High School)
